The Via Collective team loves experiencing new places through their public transit systems. So naturally we jumped at the opportunity to complete a wayfinding strategy analysis for the Pittsburgh light rail system, dubbed The T. Working with the Port Authority of Allegheny County, we audited six downtown T stations to understand the wayfinding tools, branding standards, and navigational challenges of the system. Without a master plan, the system evolved haphazardly, with inconsistent signage and branding applications, creating confusion and distrust among users. Our recommendations to the Port Authority will help pave the way for a strong, consistent, and user-friendly wayfinding system.
