Via Collective is thrilled to announce our continued collaboration with AECOM on the Penn Station Critical Improvements project. We will be joining the schematic design team for Phase 2 of this project – the renovation and expansion of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Train Hall. In this capacity, Via Collective will develop the wayfinding design and strategy for both temporary and permanent signage.
The launch of this project was announced by Governor Cuomo in September 2018, after many years of debate about how to improve Penn Station. This is the second phase of work, following a new LIRR entrance that is scheduled to open at the end of 2020.
The Phase 2 LIRR Train Hall renovations include an expansion of the 33rd Street corridor footprint, increased ceiling heights, replacement of existing finishes, and reimagined wayfinding. These improvements will contribute to increased safety, clearer sightlines, and streamlined pedestrian flow throughout the space.
Via Collective is honored to continue work on this monumental project and looks forward to playing a role in improving the experience of Penn Station for all.
