Metro-North Railroad Enhanced Station Initiative
Exterior Wayfinding and Signage
After a successful implementation of the Enhanced Station Initiative project across 31 subway stations, MTA deployed this same initiative to six Metro-North stations. With Halmar spearheading the project, Via Collective worked with Arup to coordinate the location, messaging and infrastructure needs for a comprehensive wayfinding program. This design-build project consisted of station enhancements and improvements to train stations in White Plains, Riverdale, Port Chester, Harlem, Crestwood and Yonkers.
Coordinating across more than 10 disciplines, Via Collective integrated the signage system into the architecture, consolidating key messaging and creating touch points that supply up-to-date train information. This approach has increased information access, eased passenger flow, and reduced station signage ‘clutter’ to create a more seamless navigational experience.
