NYPD 116th Precinct Station House
Wayfinding Strategy & Design
Located in southern Queens, the 116th Precinct Station House is a new building designed by Dattner Architects. The building street frontage provides direct access to the community room with the entrance to the NYPD station within the plaza, which is also a physical connector for residents and the Rosedale Station entrance. The building scale, back-side parking, and street frontage protects the character of the residential streetscape and sidewalk from vehicular activity. This allowed for the exterior signage to be integrated into the architectural facade at a scale that provided visibility from the street and utilized the materials and finishes of the system. Identification signage at key entrances, as well as NYPD-only parking, was developed in conjunction with interior room identification, regulatory, and other ADA-required signage. This project is a part of the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s Design Excellence program.
