Randall’s Island Park
Wayfinding System
Randall’s Island is a mixed-use destination that includes sports facilities, outdoor fields, a concert venue, natural areas, picnic sites, and waterfront pathways. The previous wayfinding system—a result of decades of growth—was a mishmash of permanent and temporary signage. Despite only having one ring road, visitors often got lost—an issue reflected strongly in surveys and user feedback. By taking a holistic approach to these challenges, we designed and installed a system that minimized signs, consolidated messages, and made wayfinding easy, regardless of how visitors accessed the island.
