The Market Line & Essex Market
Environmental Graphics & Wayfinding System
The Market Line is an expansive, bazaar-like marketplace and grocery running three city blocks along Broome Street. Additionally, Essex Market has been a fixture on the Lower East Side since 1888 when it began as an outdoor pushcart market. In order to create an ease of navigation and brand distinction, we brought to these two diverse destinations together that share Essex Crossing, designed by SHoP Architects. Utilizing the brand elements and a typeface designed specifically for Essex Market, by Tobias Frere-Jones we connected the branding to each location through visual distinction but kept the color schemes, sign types, and key brand elements separate to confirm an understanding of location and space.
