Via Collective is excited to announce that we will be continuing our collaboration with Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) on a project to update the Randall’s Island Park map system. This system was originally designed by Via Collective in 2014 as part of the integrated wayfinding project for the island.
The past five years have seen many developments in Randall’s Island which have resulted in a dramatic increase of visitors – from 1.7 million to over 3 million visitors per year. Improvements include the restoration of three natural areas, the completion of the Bronx Shore Connector, reconstruction of over 60 athletic fields, and the completion of the Living Shoreline Recreation Area.
The existing maps will be revised to include all the new park destinations, updated transportation options, and refreshed graphics. This project will also include implementation of the Gateway Signs, post-and-panel signs that will be installed at the entry points to the park so visitors can easily orient themselves as soon as they arrive on the island.
Via Collective is looking forward to working with RIPA again as they continue their mandate of preserving this essential New York City resource.
RIPA, a public-private partnership, was founded in 1992 to manage and develop Randall’s Island Park. In this capacity, RIPA works in close coordination with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York City Department of Transportation, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels to execute their mission.
