Via Collective is proud to announce that the 33rd Street Entrance at Penn Station has won a 2022 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York. This new entrance opened in December 2020 and provides direct pedestrian access to the Long Island Rail Road Concourse from the street level.
Via Collective was part of the AECOM USA design team for this project and brought the work to completion during the design-build phase led by Skanska USA Civil NE. The signage was developed in close collaboration with the architect of record, Skidmore-Owings and Merrill (SOM), incorporating input and obtaining final design approval from the Long Island Rail Road-Metropolitan Transit Authority. The canopy itself is a complex glass and steel structure that rises 50 feet above street level, framing views of the Empire State Building and enhancing commuters’ experience upon exiting the station.
Via Collective congratulates the entire design-build team, and is honored to have participated in this landmark project for Penn Station.
