ABOUT THE PROJECT
After multiple attempts to create a new Penn Station for the Long Island Rail Road, Governor Cuomo launched the Penn Station Critical Improvements project in the spring of 2019 with the goals of creating an improved user experience and operations of the busiest transit hub in the United States. Over the course of four years and two phases, the project began with Phase 1 and the creation of a new entrance at 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, completed December 2020. Phase 2 included a complete renovation of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Train Hall, completed November 2022. Via Collective was responsible for the wayfinding strategy and design for both phases.
